Success at All-Ireland Fleadh Success at All-Ireland Fleadh Success at All-Ireland Fleadh

As in past years a contingent of young musicians from Ceoltoiri Crosskeys were taking part in the Scoil Eigse which runs the week before the Fleadh. During the week there were sessions on the streets and an interesting variation of the TV game 'Name that Tune' had been invented (Crosskeys style). Whether you won or lost depended on your point of view ? For us still at home the RTE cameras were there to witness the eager students heading off to bed early for their much needed rest ( I wasn't quite sure whether the sun was rising or setting). We initially had 24 players taking part in various solo and group competitions but by Friday we had an extra one as "Milo" had officially been appointed the Ceoltoiri Crosskeys mascot.

Saturday proved to be a tough day with clashes between competitions times and rather long distances between venues. One of the crew may have broken the 800m world record. On Saturday night the majority of the results were in. A good days work - 5 firsts, 3 seconds and 4 thirds (Milo was peforming well). The green shirts were going well but one poor man from another Comhaltas branch was recovering after being "whacked" with a programme for snoozing in mistake for Desy Murray ( In their defence he was wearing a green shirt - see photo). On Sunday another first was clinched. This meant that all 3 junior titles for the Miscellaneous competition were going home to the Crosskeys an outstanding performance. Our Grupa Cheoil had an excellent run adding another third place to the tally. On Monday we had a lot of exhausted but rather happy musicians for the homeward journey.

We would like to thank everyone who turned out for the Celebration Dinner in Toome. Unfortunately Milo was unable to attend as he had a prior engagement. A big thankyou to all who supported us throughout this out 25th year and we look forward to your continued support for 2002.

Comhaltas have launched the year 2002 as the Year of Renewal ("Athnuachan") so lets hope we can raise our spirits and further enjoy our music in 2002.
